Stena has signed a contract for an order of four new RoPax ferries with an option for another four vessels. This new generation of RoPax ferries, the Stena E-Flexer Class, has been developed internally by Stena and will represent a new generation of highly efficient, environmentally friendly and flexible vessels.

After extensive rebuilding, the RoPax vessel Stena Lagan will be back in service for Stena Line at the beginning of 2021, while sister vessel Stena Mersey is expected to reenter service later in 2021.

Swedish shipping company Stena Line has announced the addition of 186m-long Visentini RoPax vessel Stena Livia to its Baltic Sea fleet. The new vessel will initially join the Stena Flavia vessel on the Ninashamna-Ventspils route in mid-April, replacing the chartered Scottish Viking vessel.

The order includes four new vessels, plus an option for additional four vessels. The Côte d’Opale is the fifth in the Stena E-Flexer RoPax class. Stena RoRo has signed a long-term charter agreement with DFDS, which has been very involved in the ship’s unique design. When put into service next summer, the Côte d’Opale, with its 214 meters, will be the longest ferry operating in the English Channel.

They will be 50% bigger than today’s standard RoPax vessels and this significant investment illustrates a continuation of Stena Line’s successful RoPax concept which mixes freight and passenger traffic as part of its operational business model. In October Stena Line announced the strengthening of their Baltic Sea fleet with the deployment of two modern RoPax vessels on the route between Nynäshamn in Sweden and Ventspils in Latvia during 2021, which will add 30 per cent more lane metres freight capacity and offer a brand new modern onboard experience.
